The Korean automaker Hyundai presented their FE Fuel Cell Concept, a new hydrogen-powered CUV or SUV set to replace the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell, at the International Geneva Motor Show on Wednesday.
Its name, FE, stands for Future Eco which reflects "the innovative new technologies that complement the car's eco-friendliness," according to Frank Meijer, head of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle division. The concept is capable of running for more than 800 km between refuelling, due to the fourth generation of hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Its fuel cell tech is now 20 percent lighter, achieving 10 percent greater efficiency, and has a 30 percent increased power density in the fuel cell stack when compared to the Tucson IX35 Fuel Cell.
Some of the elements of the new Hyundai FE Fuel Cell Concept will influence a hydrogen-powered SUV that will reportedly come to light in 2018. Hyundai will launch at least 14 new environmentally-focused models by 2020.
